C8 The Soul of Money: Your Relationship with Money and what it Means

Elizabeth Butler Jameson

While Jesus spent a lot of time talking about money and our relationship to it, many of us today grow very uncomfortable around the subject. Our reluctance to own our discomfort around it is so strong, regardless of whether we feel we have a lot or too little, that many of us avoid any opportunity to reflect openly on how we understand money and it's role in our lives. This reality is illustrated by some of the very common responses: "I don't want to be told what do to with my money", "I don't want to be made to feel guilty about having money", or "I don't have enough and can't do anything about it." Our ambivalence about money and our relationship to it also profoundly impacts our (and our church's) ability to have money, share money, and raise money, directly thwarting our ability to live out our mission faithfully in the world. We can choose to stay stuck, or we can take the risk to live consciously and open ourselves to remarkable healing, freedom and joy. The workshop will draw both from Lyne Twist's remarkable book, The Soul Of Money: Transforming Your Relationship with Money and Life, as well as other resources. Come prepared to be transformed!
