L1 The Church Investment Group Presents: The Benefits of Scale: A vision for Episcopal Endowments
Susan Lee Vick, chief Development Officer
Research suggests that Episcopal endowments may have forfeited as much as $2 billion in returns during the first decade of the new millennium. Over lunch, Susan Lee Vick will explain the movement gathering behind a commitment to generating new opportunities for robust endowment revenue, while living more deeply into our Episcopal identity. Advanced by most senior faith and financial leaders throughout The Episcopal Church, and modeling on the wisdom of the Church Pension Fund, the Church Investment Group movement is this century's "great venture of vision and faith."

The Very Rev. Ian Markham, Dean
Building a new Chapel at Virginia Theological Seminary means that great architecture will intersect with mission and worship. The Seminary’s Board of Trustees has commissioned Robert A. M. Stern Architects to design a new Immanuel Chapel, close to the site where the 1881 Immanuel Chapel stood. The 1881 Chapel, much loved by generations of the VTS family, was destroyed by fire on October 22, 2010. A seminary cannot do its work without a chapel. Robert A. M. Stern is the premier architect working in the United States today. His is a worldwide practice and he has designed great buildings on many college and university campuses. He is designing a monumental building for 21st century Alexandria. Like the 1881 chapel, the new Immanuel Church on the campus of Virginia Theological Seminary will become a landmark of formation in the Episcopal Church. Building a Chapel has involved listening sessions with constituencies; interviews with architects; discussions with landscape architects; extended and ongoing consultations with a liturgical design consultant; meetings with the organ builders; and permit work with the City of Alexandria. It is a complicated multi-layered project which will cover almost 5 years.
Presenters: Dr. Linda Lankewicz, immediate past provost for the university; the Rev. Nikki Mathis, assistant dean for community life at the School of Theology, the Rev. John Thomas, headmaster for St. Andrew's-Sewanee, and Karen Meridith, Director for Education for Ministry (EfM). With Moderator, the Very Rev. William Stafford, dean of the School of Theology
Sewanee plays a unique role for the Episcopal Church in educating lay and clergy, young and old, near and far. It contains an Episcopal college of arts and sciences - the University of the South; an accredited Episcopal seminary - The School of Theology; the international headquarters for an Episcopal lay distance learning program - Education for Ministry; and an Episcopal preparatory school - St. Andrew's-Sewanee. What does this unique combination of institutions bring to the Church and its members? What opportunities lie within its Domain that are of value to the whole Church now and for years to come?
